Q: How do I get my kids to eat vegetables?
The truth is no approach works for everyone. But, a strategy that may get both kids and adults noshing on veggies is offering them before a meal. Instead of hiding cauliflower in the mac and cheese (not that there’s anything wrong with that), put out some carrot sticks, sliced cukes, or defrosted and salted edamame for grazing while dinner is cooking - and don’t forget the ranch!
If you do want to serve a veggie alongside your main meal, keep it simple and familiar. Our little girl happily gobbles up this roasted broccoli - we make a double portion at the beginning of the week (using pre-cut florets!), and she eats it for a couple of meals.
But, don’t worry too much if your kids don’t eat all - or even some - of their veggies. The biggest predictor of how your kids will eat when they’re older is what they see you eating as they grow up. Just keep offering veggies/making them available as you can.
A final note: though we have cooked thousands of family dinners, we are not a child eating expert.
